Unsecured loan with origination fee
Personal Loan Calculator
Personal loans often carry a 1-8% origination fee that is taken out of the proceeds, so the amount you repay is bigger than the amount you asked for. This calculator adds the fee to the principal before amortising.
How this is calculated
- The origination fee is added to the requested amount to get the financed balance.
- That balance is amortised at the APR over the term you choose.
- Total cost is every payment plus the fee, which is why the effective rate is above the headline APR.
Before you go
Is a personal loan cheaper than a credit card?
Usually, if your card APR is above roughly 18% and the loan APR is in single digits to mid teens. Compare the total interest, not the monthly payment.
What does the origination fee do to the APR?
It raises the effective cost. A 12% loan with a 3% fee behaves like a slightly higher rate because you receive less than you repay.
Can I pay it off early?
Most US personal loans have no prepayment penalty, but check — some charge a fee or a minimum interest period.
